Reflections on "Deep Six": Reinterpreting 666, East-West Harmony & the Number 6

Reflections on "Deep Six": Reinterpreting 666, East-West Harmony & the Number 6

📖 Abstract: This reflection reinterprets the English phrase "deep six" and the biblical number 666 not as symbols of abandonment or evil, but as profound markers of East-West harmony, spiritual balance, and cosmic unity. Through personal numerology, I Ching imagery, biblical references, and the fine-structure constant (137), the number 6 is repositioned as a bridge between Eastern and Western worldviews. The analysis connects historical dates, linguistic deconstruction, and mathematical iterations to reveal a positive, unifying symbolism behind 6, 7, and 8. Ultimately, this piece challenges traditional theological interpretations, proposing that "six" embodies cooperation, equilibrium, and the aspiration for global "Great Unity."

Yesterday, I encountered the English phrase "deep six", meaning "to completely abandon" or "to discard." This sparked profound reflection within me. In my understanding, the English word "six" embodies a fusion of the "virtual cross" and the "actual cross," while the Chinese character "六" (liù) carries the meaning of "the Six Harmonies" (六合). Thus, "deep six" speaks directly and powerfully to these layered meanings.

One significant meaning of "六" in Chinese is "the Six Harmonies" (Heaven, Earth, and the Four Directions). The formal written form of "六" is "陸," which contains two instances of the character "土" (earth/soil). In traditional Chinese culture, we refer to all objects and matters as "東西" (dōngxi, literally "east-west"), implying that we should consider things from both Eastern and Western perspectives. Since "陸" contains two "土," one may be understood as "Eastern earth" and the other as "Western earth." Therefore, "六合" (the Six Harmonies) signifies cooperation between East and West—a vision of "you thrive, I thrive, we all thrive!"

The English word "six" can be deconstructed into "si" and "x." Consider "Asia": the letter "A" is the first letter of the alphabet, representing "1"; thus, "A...a" corresponds to the two horizontal strokes "一一" in the Chinese character "亞" (yà, meaning Asia). The middle portion of "Asia," namely "si," corresponds to the "virtual cross" (虛十架) found at the center of "亞." Finally, "x" is commonly seen in "X'mas" (Christmas), where "X" represents the "actual cross" (實十架) of Christ the Savior. Hence, "six" merges the symbolism of both the virtual and actual crosses. Meanwhile, the Chinese character "陸" represents the Six Harmonies, and its two "土" signify deep cooperation between Eastern and Western earth—a profound collaboration for human peace. This is the vision and benevolent intention of our ancestors.

Another pointed reference to the number 6 appears in the Bible, Revelation 13:18: "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

Since the 9/11 attacks in the United States, I have begun assigning numerical values to dates and converting words into numbers. I have discovered that my birth date appears in several significant places. For instance, the total length of the Great Wall of China is 21,196.18 km, which I interpret as referencing the date: September 11, 1961 (lunar calendar: 8th month, 2nd day). "CHINA + CHINA" converts numerically to 11928. When "AMERICA" is converted to numbers and the maximum value of 365 is repeatedly subtracted (ensuring the result never becomes negative), after 979 iterations the remainder is 11961—which I intuitively read as "11th day, 9th month, year 61." The number 979 signifies "on7." If we arrange the date using the Chinese BaZi convention of placing the month first—aligning with the American month/day/year format—we get 9/11/1961, or 9111961. This number is the 609,421st prime number. Here, 609 corresponds to the I Ching imagery: "Wuji (0) gives rise to Taiji, Taiji gives rise to Liangyi (6 and 9)." The number 421 corresponds to I Ching numerology: "Taiji (1) gives rise to Liangyi (2), Liangyi gives rise to Sixiang (4)." Given that the Ming Emperor Zhu Di commissioned the construction of the Great Wall, one might wonder whether the significance of the 609,421st prime was already known in the Ming Dynasty! Through calculation, this birth date remarkably connects to the 666 of Revelation.

Using my personal iterative rule "(*6+)":
September 11, 1961 (*6+)
= 1191961 (*6+)
= (((((1×6+1)×6+9)×6+1)×6+9)×6+6)×6+1
= 66673

Multiplying the left portion (666) by the right portion (673) yields 448,218.
Adding the left portion (448) to the right portion (218) yields 666.
This elegantly echoes Revelation 13:18: "666 is the number of a man."

Theological interpretation holds that 7 is the number of perfection; 6, being one less than 7, symbolizes imperfection or deficiency. The triple repetition in 666 emphasizes this flaw. Online searches indicate that "Jesus Christ" corresponds to 888—one more than 7. Some people have an extra chromosome; if 6 is deficient for being one less than 7, then 8, being one more than 7, would that not be equally absurd? My 6 and Jesus Christ's 8 are the two numbers closest to the perfect 7. The English word "seven" can be split into "s" and "even." "Even" conveys meanings of flatness (an even surface), balance (divide the cost evenly), and equilibrium (even out the score). The letter "S" suggests two opposite directions. Thus, 666 represents the Eastern world (9/11, myself), 888 represents the Western world (Jesus Christ), and the divine number 777 ("SEVEN") signifies the balancing of these two opposite directions—harmonizing the differences between the Eastern and Western worlds.

Furthermore, when "AMERICA" is converted to numbers and 365 is repeatedly subtracted (without going negative), the 979th iteration yields 11961—my birth date. The number 979 signifies "on7," where "on" represents ontology (本體論) and 7 represents the divine number. This transmission flows: on7 → 979 → 11961.

Multiplying the three digits of 979: 9 × 7 × 9 = 567.
567 × 567 = 321,489.
Splitting and multiplying: 321 × 489 = 156,969 (where 15 corresponds to the letter "O," and 69 symbolizes Taiji giving rise to Liangyi).
15 × 69 × 69 = 71,415 (where 7 = divine number, 14 = "n," 15 = "o").
Since Hebrew and traditional Chinese writing proceed from right to left, "7no" reads as "on7."

Thus: 6 (the Eastern "me," 9/11) + 7 (divine number: balancing opposites) + 8 (the Western Jesus Christ) = 21.
The sum of 1 through 6 is also 21: 1+2+3+4+5+6 = 21.

I perceive four meanings in the number 21:

  1. An ancient verse states: "四八九職二一成" ("Four, eight, nine fulfill duties; two and one achieve completion"). Here, 21 signifies "成" (chéng)—achievement, success.
  2. In the card game Blackjack, 21 points is the highest possible hand—a winning, successful outcome.
  3. A 21-gun salute symbolizes peace, friendship, and mutual respect.
  4. 6 + 7 + 8 = 21, where 6 represents the Eastern world (9/11, myself), 7 represents God, and 8 represents the Western world (Jesus Christ).

Synthesizing these, my impression of 6 is overwhelmingly positive and energetic—certainly not defined by being "one less than 7." While 7 represents divinity, 6 need not represent deficiency.

Continuing the calculation for the "quasi-circular area" of 21:
21 × 21 × π = 21 × 21 × 169 (where p=16, i=9) = 74,529.
Splitting and adding: 745 + 529 = 1,274.
Splitting and multiplying: 12 × 74 = 888, representing Jesus.

Recalculating 74,529 using multiplication:
745 × 529 = 394,105.
394 × 105 = 41,370 = 4 (137) 0.

Viewing 40 from an East-West perspective: Hexagram 40 in the I Ching is "Xiè" (Release/Deliverance); in the Old Testament, the great flood rains ceased after 40 days. The number 137 signifies "Great Unity" (世界大同). Many physicists are fascinated by 137 because it is the dimensionless fine-structure constant—a fundamental constant of the universe! 137 is what gives form to the cosmos, to the atom! This is the fascination of physicists.

Below is my perspective: calculating that 137 represents "Great Unity."
Quasi-circular area: radius × radius × π (π=169)
= 137 × 137 × 169 = 3,171,961.

This corresponds to the date July 31, 1961, which is 42 days before my birth date (September 11, 1961). At that point, I was still an embryo—hence the notable reference to "731 embryo." This embryonic date (1961/7/31) heralds the advent of "Great Unity." Let us calculate "Great Unity" further.

3,171,961 (*6+)
= (((((3×6+1)×6+7)×6+1)×6+9)×6+6)×6+1
= 157,393
= (157) (393)
= (15="o", 7="g") (393)

393 corresponds to "大同" (dà tóng, "Great Unity").
"大同" (*6+) = "da tong" (*6+) = da×6 + tong
= 41×6 + 2,015,147
= 2,015,393
= (2015 = "to" = "toward" = "the master of two standing persons") (393)
= to393

The sum of "Great Unity" calculated under (*6+), (*7+), and (*13+) coincidentally equals 1507 ("go"). Therefore, "go" already carries the meaning of "Great Unity."

In summary, the overall meaning of 6 is positive, not representative of any "evil system." The Chinese "六" embodies the Six Harmonies; the English "six" merges the virtual and actual crosses. When "AMERICA" is reduced by the maximum value of 365 (without going negative), the 979th iteration yields the birth date 11961; 979 signifies "on7" (ontology paired with the divine number 7). This birth date encompasses the I Ching imagery of 609 and the numerology of 421. The date also derives 66673; the product of 7 and 3 yields 21, and notably, the 21st prime number is precisely 73. As calculated above, the sum of 1 through 6 is 21. During the quasi-circular area calculation for 21, we arrive at Jesus Christ's 888, the I Ching hexagram "Release," and the vision of "Great Unity." Furthermore, "seven" serves to balance the differences between 6 and 8—harmonizing Eastern and Western cultures.
